Tumor Immunotherapy

Client: Nature

DESCRIPTION

UV radiation from the sun can damage DNA and other structures in melanocytes, the pigment-producing cells of the skin. This animation takes a deep dive into the layers of the epidermis, showing how melanoma forms and interacts with cells of the immune system.

Crafted for a scientifically literate audience, this animation explores natural immunity by showing complex interactions between immune cells and cancer cells, and how these cancer cells can hide from the immune system. To simplify the “battle” concept, Nucleus used the metaphor of the Galaga arcade game in select scenes. The animation also explains various immunotherapies to treat the cancer.
